On August 18th, 2019, Barbara Ruth Wannamaker, devoted wife and mother of two, passed away peacefully and surrounded by her family at the age of 61 at the Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria, BC.
Barb was born on September 7th, 1957, in Vancouver, BC to Donald and Dorothy Law. On April 11th, 1992, she married Bruce Wannamaker, and together, they raised two daughters, Nicole and Robyn.
Barb brought light and laughter to everything she did and to everyone she met. Barb enjoyed her 27 and a half year career with BCTel/Telus, as well as the relationships that came with it. Whether it was baking a fresh batch of cookies or watching her family ski all day from the sidelines and bringing hot chocolate for cold fingers, she always took pleasure in doing for others. Barb was always game for an adventure, taking trips to Cuba on 24 hours notice or road tripping through the desert in the middle of summer. She will be loved and missed by all she touched.
Barb is lovingly remembered by her husband Bruce, daughters Nicole and Robyn, her mother Dorothy, siblings Ellen (Trevor), Gary (Margaret), Dave (Shelley); brother in law Dave (Chris), sister in law Jackie, nieces Kristin, Amy, Megan, Jennifer and nephews Drew, Kevin, Kelsey and Andrew. Her death is preceded by father Donald and beloved brother in law Steve.
No funeral will be held; however, family and friends will gather for a celebration of Barb’s life at her family home on Saturday, August 24th from 1-4pm. The door is open to all who have been touched by Barb and want to celebrate her life with her family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the BC Cancer Agency, the Heart and Stroke foundation, or your local SPCA – all places where Barb had wanted to volunteer.

Bruce/ Robyn/ Nicole and family. I am so saddened to hear of Barb’s passing. She had such a beautiful spirit. Her joy inspired all of us that worked in Operator Services at Telus. We were better people because of her! My night shifts were so much richer when Barb and I sat at the same POD together! We would share our “many stories about our daughters/husbands / busy, crazy lives and would laugh a lot! Especially about those “crazy customers “ that seemed to come out at night! I am so grateful I had the chance to be a small part of her life. I will remember her beautiful smile and wonderful sense of humour! She is now shining her light in the most beautiful, peaceful, perfect place. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.
When I think of Barb, I always see her with a smile on her face, and her big blue eyes full of kindness. She was a lovely person to work alongside at BCTel/TELUS because she never let the difficult customers get her down. Of course, there were hours of chat about our kids, married life, work life, and any other topics that caught our interest. Bruce, Nicole, and Robyn, my heart breaks for you, for the loss of your wife, lover, best friend, and mom. How she will be missed!
Deepest condolences Bruce, Robyn, Nicole and the whole Law family. So many wonderful family memories from Richmond through to Victoria. Barb was an extra special person. From the Rossiter family

As we all are, I am shocked and saddened by Barb’s passing and wish to pass on my deepest sympathy for your tremendous loss. Barb was one of a kind. Never cross, never sad, always smiling, always kind, always caring for friends and family alike. Anyone who had the good fortune of knowing her, was a better person because of it. Life took me away from Victoria and my BCTel/TELUS family, but I have many fond memories of Barb that I will carry with me always.

I am in shock because I never thought such a happy upbeat wonderful person
would be taken so young. I have known Barb since she started at BCTel/Telus and
She was a joy to be around and fun to talk to. She loved her Husband and Girls and
talked about how great they are all the time.
I feel we have all lost a shining light ????and worse for it.

Always positive, always kind, always caring. Barb was a wonderful person to work with at BCTel; she made the workplace fun. I never knew Barb to say a mean word about anyone. I know how much she loves her family; her girls will always be her pride and joy and she will live on through them.
I am so very sad to hear of Barb’s passing. My condolences to her family and friends. I spent many years at Telus enjoying her contagious positive energy and smile. Barb had the biggest heart and it was always such a joy to see her. I am blessed to have run into her at the mall a couple months back. May her spirit fly high and free.
I worked with Barb for many years at BCTel /TELUS. She always had a bright smile on her face and in her voice when she greeted you. I always loved and respected that quality in her as well as her heartfelt kindness. She was pure sunshine.

Larry and I offer our condolences.
Barb smile in the posted photo, is as warm and friendly as I remember it from Quadra school days. Birthday parties, school field trips and family fun events were how we got to know her and Bruce.
So sorry for your loss.
Dear Bruce, Nicole and Robyn,
Our hearts goes out to you. May we remember Barb’s beautiful spirit and the joy she gave everyone during her stay here on earth. Let us not forget this kind soul and may she be remembered by the special moments we had with her.
Bruce/ Robyn/ Nicole. I remember Barb only from the few times I met her and she was always a beautiful person. Full of life and wanting to help out whatever way she could. Please know you can reach out to us whenever you wish or need to.
I am so very sorry to learn my dear friend Barb is not longer with us. I met Barb when working at Maximus, and she became my friend in no time. I have fond memories of our brief friendship, she was a very special lady, a bright soul, and a blessing to be around . I will always remember her kind smile, and her contagious happiness. Dear God, bring comfort, and peace to her loving family, and let them remember they now have their very own star in the sky shinning for them.
