It is with deep sadness that the family of David Griggs announces his passing on December 31, 2017. He was 77 years old.
David graduated from St. John’s College, Cambridge, with a degree in Classical Languages. It was there that he met Christine who became the love of his life.
When it came to his success, David was a modest man, but we know he got a deep personal satisfaction from his accomplishments. David was a devoted husband, father and son, lifelong jazz musician and aficionado, talented photographer, rugby player and fan, avid reader and deep thinker, animal and nature lover, dedicated public servant, connoisseur of single malt, appreciator of fine invective and absurd humour.
David will be lovingly remembered by his wife and best friend of 55 years, Christine, and his children John (Sharon), Jeremy (Shannon), Alison and Penelope (Doug). He will also be fondly remembered by his three grandchildren Zoe, Silas and Ben, his sister-in-law, Glenda, and the many kind and caring friends he made along the way.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local SPCA, or take some time to listen to some fine jazz music. David would suggest Gerry Mulligan.

I was saddened to hear of David’s passing last week.. I wish I had gotten to know him better. Which makes the musical moments I did share with him even more cherished. Whether that was at Wally Wright’s ( RIP ) place listening to jazz, or playing in David’s band on the few occasions I did get to play gigs with him. Rest in peace friend. I’m sure you’re sitting in the bone section of one of heaven’s big bands or maybe fronting a swinging rhythm section blowing your socks off RIP. Sincerely David Keen
