Frances Cora Brown

Frances Cora Brown, born Oct 10, 1937, went to be with her family on Tuesday, August 28, 2024 (photo: The Victorian Newspaper, 1970).

Francie was the youngest of six children born in Victoria, to Cliff and Hazel Brown. She joins her parents, sisters, Rita (George), and Dolores, and her brothers Elmer (Audrey) Tim (Loraine) and Bobby (Eleanor). Francies was best known as the “Cat Lady” on Ashgrove. For years, she would feed cats in the neighbourhood and provided a home for many stray cats. She had a kind heart and contributed regularly to organizations that cared for children and people in need. She was instrumental in forming the Ashgrove Street neighbourhood association. Francie loved to read and write. She attended university studying English however wasn’t able to complete her education for financial reasons. She continued to be an avid reader and loved chatting about her readings. For several years she enjoyed delivering the Times-Colonist Newspaper and was a Realtor. We will miss Francie’s spirited personality and sarcastic sense of humour! We would like to thank the caring staff at The Prior for taking such good care of Francie in her final years.

Godspeed, Auntie Francie!

Donations in Francie’s honour may be made to Amnesty International, the Victoria Cat Rescue or Canuck Place in Vancouver.
