June left us peacefully, in her sleep. June was born on December 29, 1929, in Vancouver, BC, and passed away at the Mt Tolmie Hospital, Victoria, in the early morning of January 9, 2019. She is survived by her loving daughters, Vicki (and family) and Debbie (and family), her loving son, Chris (and family), and her loving husband, Rob – along with several grandchildren, residing in BC, and numerous cousins scattered around the globe.
June went to school in Vancouver, graduating from high school with honours before attending UBC. She married first while at UBC, to Bob, with whom she had the three children: Vicki, Debbie and Chris. An avid reader, and always athletic, June loved dance, and stood out on the field hockey field, through high school and university — and later on the curling ice for two decades at McPherson Winter Club, followed by, after a move to Vancouver Island, two more decades at the Comox Valley Curling Club. A passionate sportsperson, competitive, but always with a sense of fair play, June spread her joy of sports, the outdoors and life in general to many young people as a Girl Guides leader.
She was always kind and humorous and fun to be around: often to be found, by family and friends alike, dancing in the kitchen to upbeat Russian and/or Gypsy rhythms. She lived life with a huge heart and will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
A celebration of June’s life will be held in Surrey, BC, (at #111 – 16995 64th Avenue) from 2 to 4 pm this Sunday, January 13th. For details contact 778-574-3894.
