It is with deepest sadness that we announce the passing on May 22 of Patty Sheppard. Patty passed away peacefully and pain free at home after a short illness and with her family at her side.
Patty, a retired primary grade school teacher, will be deeply missed by the many who knew and loved her. Born in Montreal where she graduated from McGill and Concordia Universities following which she lived for many years in Richmond prior to moving to Victoria, and ultimately a place she loved, the Bear Mountain community.
Patty is survived by her loving family, husband Bob Flitton, three sons Jeff (Ali), Chris (Khuyen) and Jon, and her three beautiful grandchildren, Koen, Avery and Kira, the pride and focus of her recent years; three step sons, Rob, Bill and Brad and their families; and her sister Catherine and niece Casey of Ontario.
Patty’s social activities in Victoria centered around Swans Newcomers and regular evening bridge sessions with her dearest girlfriends.
We invite Patty’s friends and neighbours to join us for a celebration of her life and a following social to be held on Friday, June 1 at 3:00 PM at the Westin Bear Mountain Hotel. The family would like to deeply thank those who cared for her, in particular the wonderful VIHA West Shore nurses and the Victoria Hospice team.

Dear Bob
Sigurd and I were so sorry to learn of Patty’s death. I remember meeting Patty at Newcomers – those bridge games and Friday morning walks twenty years ago – and enjoying her zest for all the new adventures life was presenting. We enjoyed being ‘backyard neighbours’ for those Highlands years – spending time with Patty was always such a pleasure! She loved her life, you Bob, and her children and grandchildren and was always so happy to share the latest news of all of you.
Sigurd and I are in Edmonton, but we’ll think of you on June 1st. We hope that the lovely memories you have of your beautiful wife, mother and grandmother will comfort you and your family.
Sigurd and Honora
I have never met you, Patty, but I know you were a special life-long friend of my close buddy Dale Palin so you must have been a very special person. I know Dale is grieving for you, so that makes me grieve for you also. Blessings and condolences to your family and close friends.
Bob & Family,
I am so sorry for your loss…and also for not being able to attend the Celebration of Life to express my condolences in person. Thinking of you all.
