It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Richard Alan Seitz on December 14th, 2023. Alan was born on November 6, 1968 and is survived by his parents Richard and Helen, his brothers Guy and Robert, as well as his niece and nephew, Julia and Nathan Seitz, respectively.
Alan graduated from Port Hardy Secondary School in 1986 and worked in the commercial fishing industry until he joined the military in 1989 where he served in both the Princess Patricia Canadian Light Infantry 3rd Division and the 2nd Airborne Commando. He left the military and returned to Port Hardy to work at BHP Copper Mine for a time and eventually returned to his passion for being on the water by working on tug boats and commercial fishing.
Alan’s other passion was to creatively prepare amazing meals and share in those feasts with family, friends and coworkers. When Alan wasn’t on a boat working or in the galley cooking, he was often found exploring inlets on his sailboat, climbing through the woods hunting for food or along the shoreline plying the rivers and lakes for trout. Alan was an avid reader of historical adventures, had a kind heart, an infectious laugh and loved to share his stories and knowledge with others.
Alan will be missed dearly by those that loved him. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
