July 30, 1947 – December 3, 2019
After a lengthy hospital stay, Rick passed peacefully.
Rick was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Phyllis. He will be sadly missed by his wife, Judith Patts; brother, Darrell; sisters, Jo-Anne Rife (Dave) and Judith Mar (Anthony); stepchildren, Norm (Pam), Darren, and TJ (Olivia); nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.
Rick was born in Fort Frances, ON. He served his country with distinction in the Canadian Armed Forces. Rick accomplished many things in his life, including being a mental health worker and psychology teaching assistant before becoming a Para-legal, then moving into nursing as a final career choice. He was a compassionate, loving individual who when retired found his true passion as a Registered Foot Care Nurse.
Many thanks to the staff of Royal Jubilee Hospital, who provided loving care that helped him through the troubling time… as well the excellent care of Dr. Horgan and his team who didn’t waver on helping him.
As Per Ricks wishes, we will be having a small family gathering to celebrate his life.

So sorry to hear of Rick’s passing. He was our Footcare Nurse for several years. We enjoyed his ‘visits’ and exchange of family happenings.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends.
I am so sorry to hear of Ricks passing
I went to Mount Royal College with Rick. We affectionately called him our Sunshine. He had such a warm smile and a kind heart. After both of us moved to Victoria we had a casual acquaintance friendship and I would occasionally see him at work. During my Mother’s hospitalization and on the day of her death he was her nurse and offered his extra TLC to my Mom and my whole family. I will be forever grateful to him for that. I wish his family my heartfelt condolences.
I am so sorry for your loss. I just found out today about his passing. Rick and his ex-wife Mary Lois were very close friends with my parents Harry and Lana and he was Uncle Rick to me growing up. I have so many wonderful memories of time spent with Uncle Rick. Sad that we lost touch later in life and I will cherish the memories that I have forever.
