SYLVESTER, Richard “Rich” William
Richard William Sylvester passed away at home on September 24, 2024 at the age of 80 in Saanichton, BC, (formerly of Paris, Ont) surrounded by his loving family.
Rich was born in Brantford, Ontario to parents, Claude “Bud” & Dorothy Sylvester. He is survived by his soulmate of 43 years, Diane (Hallam); cherished daughter, Leanne (Dorion) Dellabough; & grandsons, Lucas (Jennifer), Isaac (Jahniaa) Dellabough, all of Saanichton BC; step-son, Trevor; brothers, Robert (Darlene) & Murray (Rob); and sisters-in-laws; Karen (Rob) Eldridge & Heather Edwards. Rich was predeceased by his infant son, Warren; daughter, Christine; step-son, Jason; and brother-in-law, Brian Edwards, all of Ontario.
“Papa Rich” adored & cherished his great-grandchildren; June, Aubrey, Levi and Ziah. He will be missed by his many nieces, nephews and friends.
His favourite activities with Diane were on or near the waters of Lake Erie (Ontario) or Elk Lake (BC); swimming, camping, boating, lazing at the beach (aka bikini watching) and especially the Pottahawk weekend shenanigans. In each town they lived, they were blessed with close friends and thoughtful communities.
Rich had a long career in the ever-changing computer industry, beginning in the 70’s as a programmer on some of the first main-frame computers. He worked as a Systems Analyst at various companies, such as Slater Steel, and finished his career in IT with The Ontario Government Correctional Services & Minatour, a small family-owned company that treated him like family. In his spare time, Rich enjoyed a vast array of hobbies including photography, model building and gardening but was best known for his carpentry and all-around handyman skills. Even in his last weeks, Rich loved talking through the complexities of various household repairs with Dorion and “the boys”.
Donations welcomed for Victoria Hospice or Heart & Stroke Foundation.
