Born in Guelph, Ontario, Bob began his career in applied mathematics at the University of Toronto, where he received his MISC in 1952. After being awarded a Ph.D. at Cambridge University (Trinity Hall) in 1957, he continued his research at the National Research Council in Ottawa and the Courant Institute in New York City). He subsequently taught and carried on his research at the Royal Military College in Kingston, Ontario, and the Technical University of Denmark in Copenhagen, returning in 1966 to NRC. In 1973 he was appointed Professor of Mathematics at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, where he remained until retiring and moving to Victoria, B.C. in 1990.
Bob is survived by his wife Judy (Judith nee Robertson), and his sister Georgina (Anderson). He was predeceased by his brother Lawrence in 2000.
No funeral service will be held.
