November 26, 1923 – December 27, 2015
Rudolph “Rudy” John Scarabelli died the evening of December 27, 2015 at Saanich Peninsula Hospital, BC. He was born November 26, 1923 in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Rudy is survived by his wife of 61 years, Grace (nee McVey); his daughter, Michele; and son, Carlo.
He is predeceased by his father, Chef Carlo Scarabelli, born in Pavia, Italy; his mother, Marie Portal Scarabelli, born in Languedoc, France; and his brother, Edmond “Eddie” Scarabelli of Ottawa, where the family resided.
Rudy went to Lisgar Collegiate before attending McGill University receiving his B Eng. in ‘47. His civil engineering career took him all over the world from New Guinea, Venezuela, Mexico, the US and back to Canada. He worked on many large civic projects in Montreal and Newfoundland, and the hydroelectric projects at James Bay and La Grande, Quebec. Rudy had a wonderful sense of humour and loved life and nature to the fullest.
A profound thank you to the staff of the Saanich Peninsula Hospital for the wonderful care he was given. He is greatly missed by his family and friends.
