Sandra (Sandi) Claire Archer (nee Richardson)

Sandra (Sandi) Claire Archer (nee Richardson) passed away the evening of December 4th, 2018, within the Victoria General Hospital (VGH) ICU shortly after moving to palliative care. She suffered a stroke due to a burst cerebral aneurism on the morning of November 29th, 2018 and never regained consciousness. Her immediate family members remained by her side for 5 days while she was on assisted breathing in the ICU until she was moved to Palliative Care and taken off breathing assist. A family member constantly remained by her side through her journey to peace. She was 71 years old, born in Montreal January 21, 1947. Predeceased by her parents Kenneth and Jacqueline Richardson.

Survived by, and lovingly remembered by, her loving husband of 50 years, Lester (Les) and two daughters Christine and Teresa (Terri), her only sister Doris (Doe) Shirley, and 4 grandsons – Brandon, Jesse, Timothy and Adam.

At the end of October 2018, Sandi was in hospital being treated for blood clots in her legs and was put on the blood thinner Warfarin. During Scans testing, they discovered a large cerebral aneurism. Although it had been there for many years, it burst November 29th which resulted in catastrophic damage and a coma where she remained unresponsive until her passing. It was with heartbreak and honouring of her wishes, we had to say goodbye and let her go. She will be forever in our hearts and her light and character shines on in all of her family and those who knew her best.

Sandi will be cremated, her ashes spread with a family Celebration of her life to come in time.

The family sincerely appreciates the outpouring of support and warm wishes received from extended family members and friends. Sandi was well loved by everyone who knew her (“to know her was to love her”). Thank you.

Condolence Messages

  1. Dear Uncle Les, Terri, Christine and families:
We felt so sad to hear about Auntie Sandi’s health struggles and sudden passing. What a shock for all of you – how she will be missed! Auntie Sandi always had a smile and funny quip on the tip of her tongue and was so all about family. We know Marv and Florence always enjoyed their travel and social time with her and Uncle Les – always fun. All the grandsons will remember special feelings and memories about times with their grandma. We have such great memories of the family reunions hosted at your home. I’ll always remember Auntie Sandi’s skill with duct-tape, too. She was so funny and practical, and so loved all of you.
Wishing you love and hugs and strength,
    Shannon, Rob, and Keagan

  2. Tom & Kathie Richardson

sister in-law, Sandi. We have many great memories.
Sandi will always be the “Brightest Star in the Sky”.
    Love to all of you,
    Tom & Kathie.

  3. Kelly Bannister

Dear Uncle Les, Christine, Terri and families,
We were so sorry to hear of Aunti Sandi’s aneurism and stroke, it must have been a tremendous shock to you all. It is amazing that she had you by her side for her remaining days, what a gift of your presence you were able to share, the most important thing you could give to her and to yourselves – despite how difficult it must have been for you all. As much as the days will undoubtedly continue to be difficult, we hope that there is daily light and love to comfort you and bring you courage and strength over time. Thinking of Sandi always brings a smile – an aunt with a sense of humour and sass, always saying things like they were in a way that no one else could, and a generous person who clearly loved family above all else. Love to you all, Kelly, Ron, Katia and Matthias

  4. Sharon Lord/Ribeiro

    Dear Lester, Christine and Terri,

I just read the obituary of Sandi’s passing and it brings such sadness to my heart. Sandy was one of the rare special people that we are allowed to share time and friendship with in this life Life sometimes sends us in different directions but never diminishes the love in our hearts and the wonderful memories of friendship we have shared over the many years. Christine and Terri it is with such special remembrance that we were allowed to share in your growing years to see you grow to such lovely ladies and such joy for your Parents. The time of healing comes in waves but the love and joy of your Mother and for Lester the love of such a special lady and friend – memories are always alive and bring thanksgiving for such a precious life shared. I pray you find comfort with each other remembering the love of a Wife, Mother and grandmother and Sister and a special friend to many.
    Love Sharon and Bernard
